Indulac

VDI and Micro Segmentation

"Indulac is a leading food manufacturing, that uses 100% fresh milk from local dairy farms to make the most delicious and nutritious dairy products such as Long-Life Milk (UHT), local fresh white cheese and butter. Indulac has been serving the Puerto Rico market for more than 60 years. In 2017, Cooperativa de Productores de Leche acquired INDULAC, and now Puerto Rico Dairy Industry is a subsidiary of COOPPLE.

Indulac depends on technology innovation to streamline its operations and processes that allow the vertical integration of agriculture and the industrialization of the production of dairy products, which result in greater competitiveness of the sector and an increase in agricultural production.

Challenges

Since becoming part of COOPPLE, Indulac has added tenants from other companies in their own facilities to collaborate and share IT resources. While this has many business benefits to the organization it has created new challenges for the IT department; how to provide seamless and secure access to internal resources without expanding their data center size or acquiring new infrastructure for the other tenants.

The Solution

Indulac identified multiple areas of opportunities that needed to be addressed in order to add the required capabilities to provide all tenants with a secure collaborative environment that would not put their security and operations at risk. As part of the process we identified that the routing was a single point of failure, the same subnet was used for all servers and our aging citrix farm could no longer support new forms of application delivery. Using VMware Horizon Enterprise for Desktop and NSX for Advanced, CP Corp architected, designed and implemented VDI and Application Pools to provide agile and secure access to applications using segmentation was implemented to prevent lateral movement inside the VDI environment. The NSX platform became the core routing platform providing redundancy and data center firewall capabilities by becoming the default gateway of all segments

Business Beneficts

With VMware Horizon the customer was able to transition from an aging Citrix platform and a mixed application delivery model to a single unified experience for all personnel. New client-server application deployments have been streamlined allowing the Indulac to adopt their use in accelerated fashion while maintaining a zero-trust approach to security. Also achieved secure and reliable access to production application to remote users, with the ideal end-user experience.

The NSX solutions allows simple centralized management of all routing subnets allow easy segmentations of end user devices and servers, allowing the network to grow without requiring costly hardware purchases and providing the foundation for a secure multi-tenant LAN environment.
